There aren’t many words to describe the Kilian Kerner show other than beautiful. This fashion week, the main entrance of the Waldorf Hilton hotel welcomed all sorts of fashion press, bloggers and buyers and while we were all looking to each other thinking “who are you”, the doors of the main courtyard space opened, blinding our eyes and taking us all to a marvellous world of luxury, glamour and etiquette.
With a live performance from jazz pianist Greg Foat in the background, we all could observe a majestic show where models and mannequins coexist in the same space; static and naturally beautiful. A minimal presentation, where more than the clothes, the main center was the brand essence made of music, feelings and colour.
One of the main pieces that caught my eye, could well have been worn by an empress of the time: a superb ball gown skirt made of organza in shades of white with rose petals in gold falling from waist, combined with a long-sleeve cropped bodice in shades of gold and brown. An updated, brave and clever version of the glamour of centuries gone by, without losing a bit of elegance along the way.
Kerner’s collection, ‘Red Carpet’ encapsulates glamour in full, mid length and short dresses in a palette of white, gold, navy and black. It truly compresses the timelessness of elegance with pieces that could be in your wardrobe forever and still be beautifully on trend. His label is definitely a great investment for those of you who value fashion but also want to keep your identity.
The designer, who created the Kilian Kerner label in 2004, is well known in Berlin for creating conceptual worlds though his designs, live performances and shows. His designs truly tell stories and epitomise the emotional experience of the individual collection theme. Last July, he presented his eleventh show at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Berlin and the collection represented a dream full of opposites, a game of contrasts between conformity and unconventionality. In fact, the collection presented at the Waldorf Hotel was a combination of sobriety with eccentricity – reinforcing designer’s identity.
His designs convey the feeling that everything can and may as well happen and his expert eye has not been missed by editors such as Suzy Menkes, who has hailed Kilian as the next big thing on the fashion scene. This Fashion Week was his debut in London, and after seeing his collection, we can honestly say that he is one to watch for the upcoming seasons.
Kilian Kerner reminded me that fashion can indeed transport you wherever you desire and I cannot wait to see his vision again, welcome to LFW.
