Jil Sander’s AW12 ‘Vasari’ bag is possibly the world’s most expensive paper bag. At a staggering £185 we cannot help but find the price slightly ridiculous, after all, this handbag (if you can call it that) is simply a glorified brown paper take-out carrier; hardly glamourous, but that hasn’t stopped it from selling out.
The bag, which is made of ‘100 per cent coated paper’ features brown stitched seams and silver eyelets; for what we can only assume is to give that much needed ventilation for ones sandwiches.
It seems it will be a challenge for those who are frantically trying to get there hands on the ‘must-have’ paper bag though. Independent London boutique LN-CC, the only UK stockiest of the bag, sold out of their stock quota just three weeks after it first went on sale and purchasing directly from Jil Sanders will bring you little luck either as it has sold out there too.
Fear not though, as there’s a more luxurious leather style on offer, but you’ll be left with little change from £500 if the upgraded version is more to your taste. As you would expect there are plenty of the leather variety in stock, shocker!
When I look at this brown crinckled, sorry excuse for a bag, I cannot help but wonder are we all that desperate for a slice of designer, that is has really come to the point where we will buy into anything with a designer brand plastered on it, even if it is a disposal grocery bag?
