It’s pretty safe to say that most people would call jeans a wardrobe staple; the hardwearing and versatile fabric has well and truly found a place in our hearts. From denim flares to bootcut to ultra skinnies our favourite fabric has seen a few transformations over the years. Make sure your denim is up to date by following our guide to the hottest jean styles for this season.
The Skinny
Surely we can’t be the only ones who can remember the fear and trepidation when skinnies first fought their way into the fashion conscience? Since then they have really earned their stripes and you’d be hard to pushed to find a fashion lover who didn’t have a pair or two tucked away for emergencies. This season the skinny is still going strong but change it up by rolling up the hem to give a bit of ankle action or get creative with the scissors to customise your own ripped jeans. If the thought of hacking at your denim is a bit much, plenty of high street stores have done the hard work for you.

Mom Jeans
The unlikely fashion hero of the denim world this season. The high-waisted, slouchy style has caught the eye of many bloggers who have been showing us how surprisingly easy to wear they are. The high waist makes them perfect for pairing with a crop top for those who don’t want to flash too much midriff and the looser fit is a welcome change from the circulation stopping skinnies.

Boyfriend
As with all things 90s this loose fit jean is making a comeback and is perfect for the slightly grungy vibe that is loitering around this season. As one of the most forgiving of jeans styles they are ideal for lazy weekends and pub lunches. But they aren’t just for off duty days; roll up the hem, pair with brogues and a tucked in shirt for a perfect casual Friday look. ASOS have a fantastic selection of boy fits (see below) to suit any shape and style and budget.

Dungarees
These should be approached with caution and never come within a mile of an office but like it or not dungarees are having a moment; at least according to Alexa Chung and Fearne Cotton who have been rocking theirs. If head-to-toe denim seems a bit much then try the shorts version for a cute summer look.
Whichever jean style you choose don’t forget to invest a bit of time in finding the right fit for you. And finally, always check the back pockets before your buy, many a jean has been ruined by a badly placed pocket.
