There aren’t many celebrities that can seamlessly switch between rock band front man and award winning actor as easily as if they were changing the channel. But in the last year Jared Leto has proved that it is indeed possible – making the industry sit up and take notice of his incredible talent. After scooping the Oscar for Best Actor in a Supporting Role at this years Academy Awards, Leto has been riding high on an unstoppable wave of success. But for those who are unaware of Leto’s previous successes he may well have come as quite a surprise

Jared Leto was born on 26 December 1971 in Bossier City Louisiana. After studying arts and acting at college Leto, like many before him, made the move to Los Angeles to follow his dreams. In 1994 he secured a breakthrough role in American teen drama series, My So Called Life, which led to a string of film roles including parts in Fight Club and Girl Interrupted.

In 1998, 30 Seconds to Mars was born after Leto joined forces with brother Shannon to pursue his other passion in life, music. After four successful studio albums, professional recognition, and a string of awards, the band is stronger than ever; proving Leto’s versatile ability to find creative balance between his two thriving career paths.

Back to the year 2000 and Leto took on the role of heroin addict Harry Goldfarb in Darren Aronofsky’s Requiem for a Dream. A role which solidified his presence in the industry as a credible character actor among critics and peers alike. But it wasn’t until last year that Leto’s true on screen potential was recognised after his emotional portrayal of AIDS sufferer Rayon in Dallas Buyers Club.

Effortlessly cool, ridiculously easy on the eye, and talented to boot; is there anything that Leto can’t do? With an Oscar under his belt, a new album storming the charts, and his face on the pages of every glossy magazine around it really does seem like, for now at least, the man is truly unstoppable.
