As a rule, we all know that if we sit around eating junk food and confectionery then we’re going to have to suffer with more than a few serious consequences. However, even if you manage to resist the taste of such delicious, artery-clogging foods, then there’s no reason that all of your other senses have to miss out too. Enter pudding scented body lotions, patisserie flavoured candles, sugary sweet perfumes… If you can imagine it, then somewhere you will be able to purchase that calorie free indulgence. Even your hair can somewhat resemble a sweet shop – just look at Tigi’s latest range of products, which features bottles labelled ‘Sugar Dust’, ‘Totally Baked’ and ‘Sugar Shock’.
If it wasn’t good enough to cover our bodies and homes with sensory products that would widen Willy Wonka’s eyes in admiration, it seems that we also want our favourite snacks printed upon our apparel. We’re not talking salads here: in general, the higher the sugar and fat content the better. High street giant Topshop recently sold out of their hotdog printed bikini, whilst Vans have produced an all-over chip printed version of their classic authentic trainers. Maybe wearing fast food is steadily becoming the healthier way of enjoying grease-laden grub. Perhaps in the future these food adorned items will completely replace the ever popular slogan t-shirt, as customers choose to share their favourite snack rather than a witty one liner.
For the higher end of the fashion realm of course, fruit is preferable to milkshakes and suchlike. Marc Jacobs has repeatedly used apple motifs within his jewellery and watch collections. At the opposite end of the scale, quirky brand Lazy Oaf’s current collection features both a kooky pineapple illustrated print, as well as one laden with pizza slices, hot dogs, ice cream and fizzy drinks. Regardless of the price tag on whichever food inspired garments you crave, in terms of styling, I think it’s fair to say that the majority of us don’t tend to like to look too sweet. Toughen up an otherwise sugary look with other less adorable items. Think skinny jeans, biker jackets, and your most impressive pair of boots. You most definitely do not want to wear more than one piece of this micro trend at any given time, or risk looking like some sort of starved food obsessive. Something unusual will always draw comments, but go too far and you’re sure to simply attract strange looks and make the people around you overwhelmingly peckish.
