Have you heard about the Disney X Vans collaboration due for release on June 5th? If not, why not!? When I first heard the news, my inner child screamed with joy and I knew I had to have a pair. I’m ready for the onslaught of judgement I’ll receive from friends and strangers alike, but trust me I’ll be rocking those Winnie the Pooh slip-ons like there’s no tomorrow.
Having previously previewed the collection, a lucky few already have their hands on this incredibly fun take on these classic trainers and I’m not the only one who’s more than jealous. The “Young at Heart” collection features some of Disney’s most beloved and iconic characters in a series of eye catching, heart-warming colour ways. There’s something for everyone which makes this one of Vans’ most clever collaborations – but Vans have never shied away from a collaborative opportunity, and they never fail to exceed expectations. From their ASPCA, Star Wars, and Liberty collections Vans constantly deliver products to a wide range of audiences who have become increasingly loyal to the brand over the years.
Vans and Disney previously joined forces in the 80s and and then again in 2013 when they released some of their “vault” styles and the success of their previous work has meant they can bring an even bigger collection to eager fans, this time including backpacks, hats and clothing. But even though I’m incredibly excited about this new collection, I can’t help but wonder where Simba, Peter Pan and Robin Hood are in this collaboration? Considering Vans and Disney have worked together in the past I would have thought that this time they would have stepped out of their comfort zone a little more and brought some more of their fan’s favourite characters to life. What about The Jungle Book? Beauty and the Beast? And even Toy Story? I can’t help but feel like they may have missed a beat this time around, and I’m sure that fans worldwide will also feel a slight disappointment. Although I’m sure this collection will still be received incredibly well because we’re all a sucker for a bit of Disney nostalgia at heart!
