Don’t you just love stumbling upon a hidden gem? London is a city filled with vibrant surprises that welcome you on every corner, just beckoning you to come in and explore. Whether you pass the same shop every day on your way to work and finally decide to go inside, or you’re having a Sunday stroll and accidentally end up discovering your new favourite coffee shop, finding these little treasures is the ultimate form of serendipity.

Here are a few places to get you started on your discovery:

Claire de Rouen

bookshop

I stumbled upon this treasure cove on a stroll down the book lovers road, also known as Charing Cross. With only an open door and sign on ground level to suggest this wonderful hub of fashion and photography books belongs here, upstairs you’ll be greeted with books that fill a room from floor to ceiling. You’d be silly not to discover what’s upstairs, Claire de Rouen is as captivating as the books it homes.

The Conservatory, Barbican

conservatory

Feel energised in the Conservatory at the Barbican in Moorgate on a Sunday morning. Open to the public on Sunday 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th of November it’s definitely worth making the visit as only a number of dates are available at a time. It is the second biggest Conservatory in London and you are almost guaranteed to take some wonderful snaps.

Look Mum No Hands

Look Mum No Hands is a favourable hub of greatness with locals and regulars; they can fix your bike while also fixing you a bite to eat. Located on Old Street this bustling café and workshop would fit perfectly into your Saturday afternoon.

Clear a huge chunk of your day to go through the endless amounts of vintage clothing at The East End Thrift Store. Bold, bright and colourful, the store is filled to the brim with the most eye catching pieces. Keep an eye on their Facebook page, too, as they often have clearances!

Neal’s Yard

Based in Covent Garden this hidden courtyard is missed by many because of its small alley entrance, but once you find it you won’t regret stopping by. Boasting colourful and bold shops and cafes this secret alcove is definitely worth a visit.
