Any girl who has grown up with a sister will recognise the benefits of sharing clothes. Why limit yourself to just one wardrobe when you could double the potential number of workable outfits simply by popping to the bedroom next door. But what if your sister’s wardrobe was stocked full of gorgeous designer items? Sound like a dream come true? Then make sure you welcome new website, My Secret Dressing Room, into the family.
This month sees the launch of online fashion portal My Secret Dressing Room, which allows the hire of designer items around London. The company, founded by a group of friends, wanted to give women the chance to access the wardrobe of their dreams by creating a network of fashion conscious women who can hire out and rent designer items. Following a successful launch in Milan, the innovative start-up has brought their infinite wardrobe to the ladies of London.
This idea of bringing a sharing economy to the fashion industry is perfect for the Millennials of Generation Y, who have been brought up in a recession but want nice things without compromising their financial security. We’ve all spent far too much money on a dress before for a single event that we then never wear again; why not start to make money off your purchase by renting it out to other fashion conscious individuals?
The website works by connecting women who want to rent out items, referred to as “Secret Stylists”, to women looking to rent them, “Secret Fans”. The items featured on the online portal are carefully selected to ensure they are outstanding quality and the team of professionals which run the site ensure that the items are transported and treated with care.
The site features dresses, shoes, handbags and accessories which can be rented for anytime from a weekend up to a month. With 808 items available there is plenty to choose from with items from designers like Victoria Beckham, Christian Louboutin and Chanel. The cost to rent a classic Chanel bag starts at around £169 for a week.
With the opportunity for an infinite wardrobe and the possibility of making your own wardrobe earn you money, it is little wonder that the website has reached British shores. But don’t panic if you aren’t in the South East area, with their sites already set on opening in Manchester, My Secret Dressing Room could be opening its virtual doors near you soon!
