I’m not shy to admit I love a good drink and to be honest I’ll usually drink anything – except Tequila, please no Tequila. At only 22 it’s not easy to guess that I’ve frequented my fair share of awful pubs and bars, from the local pubs that serve cheap beer and ‘skittle bombs’, to the popular haunts with their 2 for 1 cocktails that taste more of the fruit juice than of the alcohol that is supposedly in them.
But lately I’ve ventured out a bit further for a tipple or two and I owe this to my time in Bristol whilst I was at university. Down cobbled streets you’ll find small doorways that reveal underground worlds of cool bars and great drinks. Leaving the city and coming back home to a small town in Berkshire was a bit of a shocker, and trust me there are no underground bars here. London is the new Bristol for me and although that 50 minute train journey seems like the longest journey of your life when you’re on it, you forget all about it in the big city. So if like me, you also appreciate a great drink in amazing places here are some of London’s best and most unusual bars that you must try…
Cahoots is a gem hidden away in an abandoned underground station in Kingly Court. As you take a seat in a reconditioned train carriage, they’ll take you back to the 1940s with great music and even better drinks. Indulge in a little time travel here and you’ll be wondering why you ever left.
The Alchemist prides itself on it’s molecular madness – from dry ice to fire, they are here to ‘wow!’ They have an impressive collection of cocktails to choose from but nothing will prepare you for the real thing, especially their ‘Flavour Changing One’ and their ‘Lady Marmalade’.
Sky Garden will take you above the city with its 360 degree view and fabulous indoor gardens. Nothing feels real here and if it weren’t for the changing skies outside you would lose track of time. Their drinks are as good as their views; uninterrupted and stylish.
