Now that the Christmas period has definitely come to an end, it is time to look back and reflect on this years festivities and avoid looking at the waist line. The clinking of champagne glasses, the roars of laughter and the piles of shredded wrapping paper, Christmas and New Year is the time to relax, indulge and enjoy close comforts. But notoriously, the festive season is not just renowned for excessive merriment followed by calorie shredding detoxes, it is a time for love, companionship and huge sparkling diamond engagement rings.
Research has found that about a third of all engagements occur in the holiday season, a figure which far surpasses the amount of questions popped in February, the month of Valentines and any other time of year for that matter. Surrounded by your closest friends and family, and romantic images of lovers on an ice rink, mistletoe and the soundtrack of Love Actually, the festive time of year is almost guaranteed a “yes”.
Fashion darling Olivia Palmero was one of many to join the ‘Christmas Engagements’ club this year, with well groomed and handsome beau Johannes Huebl, proposing as they holidayed in St Barts. Before long, the happy couple announced their engagement on Instagram, and if you hadn’t already, everybody fell head over heels for the loved up couple
And it seems the holidays and weddings also go together like a horse and carriage. Singer Vanessa Carlton married boyfriend John two days after Christmas in a romantic boho wedding. Strokes guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. and his beautful bride Justyna Sroka also tied the knot in time for the Christmas lights and The Big Bang Theory’s Kaley Cuoco and her boyfriend of six months Ryan Sweeting celebrated New Years Eve with a wedding dress and bouquet.
There is no real theory why more engagements and weddings happen this time of year, but if you found a diamond ring under your tree, or saw in 2014 with a “yes”, Semple would love to hear your story.
