It’s been 11 years in the making, but this week it was announced that Busted, the band that jumped their way through the early 2000s, are making a comeback and this time with Charlie Simpson on board. Excuse me while my 12 year old self cries and screams whilst rushing to unearth all of the Busted memorabilia I have collected over the years!
Two albums, four awards and twelve sold out Wembley shows later the band announced their split in 2005, leaving me and hundreds of thousands of fans worldwide heartbroken. They were the One Direction of their time, only better! But then again, I am pretty biased.
With my favourite trio back I can’t help but reminisce about the good old days; over gelled spiky hair, combat trousers, chunky skater shoes and trucker hats…what a combo. But instead of going off on a tangent about how much I love this band (and trust me I could write about them for days) I wanted to look back at some of their best moments. So here they are my top 5 busted moments of all time…
No. 5 Smash Hits!
Busted’s debut was in the form of a front cover on the popular teen girl’s magazine Smash Hits! “We’re going to be bigger than Rik Waller!” Well, they weren’t wrong. Those cheeky grins stole the hearts of so many so quickly, earning them the top spot and a type of fame that none of them were ready for.
No. 4 Top of the Pops
During their career Busted had a number of live performances on Top of the Pops and I dreamt of one day being in that audience, so close yet so far from Matt Willis, the true love of my life. As I sat and watched in awe, I fell madly in love with a band I knew nothing about, but that would soon all change.
No. 3 Brit Awards 2004
That time Busted won two Brit Awards in 2004 and performed their cover of The Undertones’ Teenage Kicks. They wore ill-fitting suits and looked like they were ready for their year 11prom – it was all kinds of wrong, but yet so right!
No. 2 Crashed the Wedding
This whole video was just 10/10 amazing. Cake smashing, jumping and cross dressing – what more do you need!? Also Matt in a dress kissing real life Matt…bonus.
No. 1 The reunion!
Could it have been anything other than their reunion to top my favourite Busted moments? Of course not! I cannot describe the excitement that coursed through my body as I read the words ‘Busted are back’ but my erratic breathing and the smile that crept across my face must have said a thousand words as my work colleagues looked genuinely worried as they asked “are you okay!?” I’ve never been better. Get me those Busted tickets pronto!
