Breaking Walls Down

I used to describe August as a month that does not exist. Supposedly a quiet month with many people on holiday, a city with less traffic, less noise – providing time to slow down a little. Time to catch up with friends, to sort out paperwork, to act more on the spur of the moment. But those days are gone. This August while abroad and in London I have been busy with social media. Social media generates its own energy and does not take a holiday.

During mid-August I posted a short comment about values and my fashion business. These were bold statements about how I only want clients who do good things for other people. I watched, surprised, as the viewing figures increased from all over the world. You told me that you liked the content because it was authentic, the message was compelling and that you could identify with it. To you all, I would like to say thank you for your interest. For me it underlined the value of social media to many people, offering a valuable forum to reflect on and talk about commercial ethics and personal values.
I was invited to be a speaker at the virtual Professional Women’s Weight & Wellness Symposium. The interview was with Meg Sullivan, the owner of Enlitened Life and like many interviews, it gave me pause to reflect on who I am as a person, and ask if I am successfully carrying those values into my commercial life. In its second season, the Wellness Symposium addresses how modern corporate women and female entrepreneurs can prioritise their health while balancing their careers, and create and step into the body they desire from the inside out. Ultimately women should experience as much success in their healthy personal lives as they have experienced in their professional life. My talk will be broadcast on Monday 18 September at 2pm (UK time).
I spent some of August in Greece and returned to London with a warm wash of sayings from the people I met, Greeks who continue to reflect the thoughts of ancient philosophers. Socrates said: “Sometimes you put walls up not to keep people out, but to see who cares enough to break them down.”
I like to think that in both my personal and business lives I care enough to break walls down.
