Since 2004 Taylor Swift has taken the music scene by storm, from country singer to pop queen she always has a trick up her sleeve; her latest being her music video for Bad Blood. The feud between Taylor and Katy Perry is reported to be her inspiration for the song, after Katy apparently tried to buy-out Swift’s tour backing dancers. I’m sure Katy is kicking herself for not having penned the track herself, especially since the video has now surpassed Vevo’s record for number of views in 24 hours and to be honest I’m really not that surprised since its star studded cast has something for everybody.
From singers and actresses to models of the moment, Swift has enlisted the help of her famous friends to star in her Sin City inspired video, directed by Joseph Kahn – the same mastermind behind her video for ‘Blank Space’ and also known for working with the likes of Eminem, Britney Spears and Blink 182. If his impressive credentials don’t persuade you then let his work do the talking; ‘Bad Blood’ screams girl power and seeing so many famous faces show a fiercer side is a welcome break from the usual onslaught of boring, love story type music videos.
Not only are the women in this video celebrated for their strength, they also got to decide their own superhero names which are arguably the best part of the whole production; from Cara Delevigne as Mother Chucker, Ellie Goulding as Destructa X and Taylor as Catastrophe, each of the women are diverse in their powers and abilities. Alongside this stunning line-up Kendrick Lamar also features on the track, giving the song a notable edge to that of the album version. Its Taylor’s passion for celebrating talent that has made a video such as this one possible and she did it so perfectly. Leaving the whole world in anticipation for almost 3 weeks prior to the release of the video at the Billboard Music Awards last week where she also picked up 6 awards.
It seems Taylor isn’t going anywhere, anytime soon and I’m more than happy about that. Catch her perform at London’s Hyde Park on Saturday 27th June…I’ll see you there! And just in case you’ve been living under a rock for the past week, watch the Bad Blood video now.
