This is quite a bittersweet post for me to write this week as it is going to be my last for Semple for a while. After blogging for Semple for over three years I am sad to be giving it up but am extremely excited about the next adventure ahead of me as I am about to become a mum for the first time. I am taking a year’s maternity leave from my full time day job so I did debate continuing to blog since I enjoy it so much but decided that I wanted to take this year solely to focus on the new addition to my family. I am lucky to be in a position to do this and I want to be able to treasure those first precious months with my baby and my husband.

I have really enjoyed my time writing for Semple and have been very lucky that both brilliant editors I have worked with there, Jenna Jones and Sophie Maguire, have embraced all of the weekly ideas I put forward to them. In my time here I have written about entertainment, lifestyle and foodie trends, but my favourite topic has to be fashion. I have never claimed to be a fashion expert but I do love shopping and fashion with a passion and enjoy exploring what style means to different people. We have a real freedom in Britain to express ourselves through our clothes and are renowned the world over for offering a unique and edgy take on fashion.

I feel Semple has been a really good fit for me as the ethos behind Maggie Semple’s vision has always been inspiring women, their unique sense of style and the story that fashion tells them and those around them. As I said, I am no fashion expert but I love expressing myself through my clothes and changing my look with my mood. My ever expanding bump over the last few months has certainly challenged my style but I hope that I have made it through so far with at least a certain amount of grace. We’ll see how long I can keep that up now that I am in the final stretch.

Before I waddle off into a future of sleepless nights, dirty nappies and baby brain, I do have one final thing to say. There are a lot of awful, truly terrible things happening in the world around us at the moment and it would be easy to dismiss fashion as trivial and unimportant. This would be a completely fair judgement but what we should not forget is how lucky we are that we do have the freedom to dress and express ourselves in the way we choose too. So let’s carry on exploring and celebrating fashion and be thankful and humble that we are in a position to do so.

I hope you have enjoyed my blog posts over the last few years, I’d like to think this isn’t the last you will hear from me at Semple. I will certainly continue to be a fan of the wonderful team that put together the blog, magazines and events and will no doubt be pleased of the distraction when I am wide awake at 3am. I may be about to become a mum for the first time but I am still a Semple Girl.

Fashion blogger Samantha has been contributing to the Semple blog for over two years now and loves coming up with fresh ideas for her weekly posts. Samantha is an fblogger through and through and enjoys nothing more than writing about fashion, giving her the perfect excuse for extensive ‘research’ through a little retail therapy. When Samantha is not at her day job or writing for Semple she’ll most likely be found binging on Netflix, eating peanut butter or shoe shopping….sometimes all at the same time – multitasker!
