Since we cannot rely on the weather to give us that summer feeling this year, it looks like we will have to find our inspiration elsewhere. Since music and fashion go hand in hand, what better way to find your summer look than to take inspiration from the top tunes of the season. From the risqué “Blurred Lines” to the whimsy of Gabrielle Aplin; pick your favourite summer song and then channel your favourite summer look.
Blurring the lines
Like it or loathe it, Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” shot to the top of the charts, cementing its status as a hit of this summer. Whilst the video gives us very little to take direct fashion inspiration from; sex up your summer look with cut-out sundresses for day time and plunging necklines for after dark.
Here comes the 90’s….again
Continuing the trend for all things 90’s is electronic music duo Daft Punk. The French duo have been releasing hit after dance floor hit since the house movement of the late 90’s and the current nostalgia has put them back firmly in the spotlight. “Get Lucky” is the dance floor hit of the summer and the perfect sound track to crop tops, neon brights and bleached denim.
Picnic Panic
If you prefer your summer to be less “Ibiza dance floor” and more “picnic in the park” then Gabrielle Aplin’s gorgeous, floaty tune “Panic Cord” should be on your picnic playlist.Breathy lyrics and a strong hint of whimsy go perfectly with floppy hats, girlie tea dresses and a wicker basket. Keep a packed cool bag by the door at all times in case the sun comes out.
Let’s get festive
For all you indie fans out there, who are no doubt packing their bags ready for the summer festivals, then Vampire Weekend should be on your iPod. The band from New York City seem to only makes sense in the summer – so make the most of them while you can and blast their tunes in the car on the way to Glastonbury/Reading/Isle of White festival. Accessorise with Hunter wellies, sunglasses, denim cut offs and tones of clashing jewellery.
So what do the Semple girls and their bloggers want to listen to and wear when the sun comes out?
Sophie Maguire, Editor
Fleetwood Mac and Elton John will be the soundtrack to my summer, not only will I be listening to them on my IPod but I also get to see both acts live this year; an ultimate bucket list moment. You will find me wearing vintage crop tops, baggy dungarees, old skool Vans and a bandanna.

My summer song is the same every year and it’s Heart of Glass by Blondie. Whenever I hear this song I can’t imagine a summer without wearing worn denim shorts and a casual fit top teamed with a floaty kimono and a ton of bracelets passed down to me by my mum from her days as a free-spirit textiles student.
Laura Roig, Fashion Brand Manager
Will be listening to Daft Punk “Get Lucky” while wearing denim shorts with a casual fit nautical shirt in navy and white.
Jade-Marie, Design Intern
I will be listening to Cosmic Love by Florence and The Machine, while wearing quirky T-shirts and vest from my own line Sugar Romance and neon buffalo boots.

Will be listening to The Black Keys while wearing a loose fit sundress, denim jacket and cut away ankle boots.

My summer tune/s would be Daft Punk ft Pharrell – Get Lucky or Bruno Mars – Treasure, both 70’s disco vibes! Ultimate outfit at the moment has to be a blue and white deckchair striped dungaree shorts with high top sneakers and stacked gold accessories! Eclectic and still waiting for a sunny day off work to be worn!
