A couple of years ago you probably would not have known who Amal Alamuddin was.  Maybe you still don’t.  But if we told you she is now more widely known as Amal Clooney it might start to ring a bell!  In September 2014, Amal married actor George Clooney and, whilst it is a shame that it took a celebrity wedding to put Amal on the public radar, (as even a brief look at her credentials will show her accomplishments far outweigh that of her new husband’s), we can say that we have officially found our new girl crush.  Here are our reasons why we think Amal should be your girl crush too:

She proves that real men aren’t intimidated by successful women

Whilst George Clooney has achieved worldwide fame as an actor, it’s clear that Amal is the real “power” behind this power couple.  Even George himself has admitted to being fully aware that Amal’s achievements put his in the shade.  Whilst the day of their wedding saw many headlines putting George’s name in the spotlight, as The Business Woman website shrewdly pointed out “Internationally acclaimed barrister Amal Alamuddin marries an actor” is probably a more accurate representation of the event.  It is refreshing to see that the previously self–confessed eternal bachelor chose to settle down with a woman who is successful and powerful in her own right.

She proves you can be clever and still care about your appearance

There is still often the assumption that women are either smart or pretty and excelling in one of these areas doesn’t necessarily stop us from being criticised for not being the other; for instance ignoring the achievements of female politicians and instead focusing on their “frumpy” wardrobes.  Amal with her willowy figure, chic dress sense and glossy hair shows that reaching the top of your profession doesn’t have to be done at the expense of style.

And speaking of her style, Amal’s working wardrobe is fast becoming the envy of working woman everywhere.  Forget bland trouser suits and boring briefcases; by pairing nipped-in-at-the-waist dresses with longline blazers and killer court shoes, her work look is stylish whilst remaining appropriate for the courtroom.  By going for classic looks with a few key trend-led pieces Amal has made her wardrobe work as hard as she does and it takes her effortlessly from office to red carpet events.

She is a good role model

With young girls thinking the path to success is paved with reality shows and crop tops, it is refreshing to have a role model that is celebrated for her hard work and ambition in a world that is not focused solely on celebrity status. With the pop stars like Miley Cyrus and Rihanna constantly (and confusingly) being held up as examples of both empowerment and exploitation of women, isn’t it nice to have a role model that doesn’t come with a question mark?

With rumours that the power couple have their sights set on politics, Amal’s ascent shows no sign of stopping any time soon. Only time will tell if the rumours are true but in the meantime smart, beautiful women being celebrated publically is one trend that we hope goes on for many season to come.
