The word ‘vegan’ is often scoffed at and dismissed immediately – with connotations of earthy, do-gooders that look down on you as you tuck into a greasy cheese burger, or splash out on a new leather bag but in recent times things are changing. We’re aware now more than ever before of the environmental and health implications that eating meat and farming animals is having on our wider world. However we are slowly waking up and making significant changes to our lifestyle and our diets with the help of animal friendly businesses and their practices.
Haute couture is expensive, flash and luxurious – we expect the best quality materials and this if often an animal produce such as fur and leather. Whether we do so in order to feel dominant and powerful or simply because it’s easy and we’ve done so for so long. I’m not sure. What I do know is that the haute couture scene is about to make a swift U turn; introducing Vaute aka vegan haute couture.

Vaute was founded in Chicago by Leanne, who at 8 was so passionate about her love for animals that she ran her first campaign in which she enlisted her peers to create art that they sold to raise money for their local animal shelter. Since then Leanne has seen firsthand the difference a few people can make and with this spark she lit the fire that is now Vaute.
Now based in Brooklyn Leanne is able to propel her dream even further. The internet has been an incredibly powerful tool for Vaute; their social media accounts provide creative, inspiring and thought provoking content daily. With Vaute’s online shop available worldwide their items sell out so fast, only adding fuel to Leannes’s fire that more needs to be done.
Now in their 7th year Vaute has grown to an incredible size, one that 8 year old Leanne could never have dreamed of. They are now hiring for some amazing career opportunities that only a lucky few will have the privilege of being considered for. Although the fashion industry and indeed the rest of the world, still has a long way to go before we work towards an animal friendly way of life, Vaute is a firm trailblazer set to make a difference and make a noise on the scene.
