It’s a well-known fact that, like babies, all shoes are pretty. Right? Wrong! This season it’s ugly shoes that the fash pack are coveting. It doesn’t take much at Semple to get our hearts racing when it comes to shoes but this year it’s the ugly ones that are making us all flustered.
Slip and slide
Already a favourite of bloggers at fashion weeks around the world, slides are a seemingly simple choice that will instantly update your outfit. Whilst only the truly fashion hardy will want to brave wearing them now, come summer will we all be slipping our feet into a pair of slides.

Nana chic
From granny style sandals to slipper style flats, our shoe choices have come over all sensible this season. No more precarious, potentially ankle breaking stilettos for us this year; take a leaf out of nan’s book and opt for sensible and safe. But safe doesn’t have to mean boring, pick embellished flats with studs or in a sultry leopard print to make your slippers dance floor worthy.

Boy Girl
We can’t get enough of our boyfriend’s wardrobe at the moment. If we are not stealing their jeans or shirts we are taking inspiration from their footwear. Masculine shoes like brogues have been popular for a few years now but their cousin, the monk strap, has been slowly creeping into the fashion scene. Go the whole masculine hog with a sharp suit or add interest to a girlie look with cute socks and a tea dress.

These boots are made for stomping
If you want to jump on the ugly shoe bandwagon now then stompy boots are the way to go. These heavy duty bad boys can already be found stomping down the catwalks and weighing down the high streets shelves. Not since the nineties have Doc Martens been so popular. The perfect ugly boots are black leather and ankle height preferably with a platform or at least a thick sole. Buckles, zips or laces are a must. You will be pleasantly surprised by how much of your wardrobe they suddenly make sense of and after your first pair you will be addicted.
