When it comes to footwear, I truly believe they can make or break an outfit.
While I would confess I’m not a huge shoe gal, I do fully appreciate their sartorial importance when it comes to putting together and completing an outfit – whether that’s for work, meetings, shopping or date night.
While some may be tempted to spend hundreds on their shoe wardrobe, others may consider them to be a more frugal purchase. And while I’m not quite on the same lines as Manolo Blahnik Queen, Carrie Bradshaw, I do find myself frequently searching for a more comfortable, yet slightly eccentric, option.
While trainers remain a firm favourite, especially thanks to their much-welcomed resurgence in recent years, I have also garnered quite the collection of loafers too. Smart, casual and oh so comfy, they’re a perfect solution to transitional dressing. Oh course, their surge in popularity is largely due to the highly sought-after Gucci numbers we have seen scattered across our favourite magazines, style blogs and every city during successive Fashion Weeks. And yet, the loafer is still considered a more mature option by many. That’s the beauty of fashion though – trends become multi-generational and items of clothing we associate with a different era altogether, soon come back around.
As we move into the more autumnal months, footwear becomes an integral aspect of new season dressing. Gone are the days of wearing flip-flops, open-toed sandals or in fact no shoes at all, as we welcome back our boots, trainers and more weather-appropriate choices.
I’ve selected just a few of my favourites that both the high-street and high-end stores have on offer for A/W17:
Patent Backless Loafers | River Island | £32
A perfect – and affordable – nod to the highly-coveted Gucci loafers.
Tie-back Suede Sandals | COS | £135
For those transitional weather days when you still want to look smart.
Puma Suede Heart Safari Trainers | Puma via Sole Trader | £79.99
A fun twist on the traditional sneaker – perfect for those cold and lazy weekends ahead.
Montana Western Boots | Topshop | £55
Rock Leather Ankle Boots | Saint Laurent via Net-a-Porter | £640
A firm staple for any A/W wardrobe, this classic and timeless style will carry you through many seasons to come.
