Some trends that come along feel like a little too much effort. Take Ladylike Goth for example, great look once you get there but getting just the right amount of black lace, the exact height of chunky boot and just a touch of aloof swagger can feel like a big effort when the nights are getting longer. This is why here at Semple we are big fans of the new trend that is, politely and quietly, curling up on fashion’s sofa this coming season, the Cosy Girl.

The Cosy Girl is a look that the Scandinavians have been effortlessly rocking for some time now. As the nights draw in us Brits have finally realised that there is a reason the Scandi nations are not only some of the coldest but also the happiest. They accept that it is freezing out and dress appropriately, yet stylishly. Forget six inch heels when the pavements are precariously frosty, instead get the biggest socks you can find and wear them poking out of the top of some sturdy, yet chic black ankle boots.

Alexander McQueen Knit Wool Sweater, £1,195, Net-a-Porter
Knitwear is a big part of this trend and, as the temperature drops, it couldn’t be timelier. Investing in good knitwear can save you money in the long run as it will stand the test of time. To achieve this look think layers layers and more layers! Warm winter coats and cosy faux fur scarfs thrown over long sleeved rib tees and oversized knits. Balance out the look with shorts and tights or skinnies on your bottom half.

Don’t forget that Cosy Girl is more than just a fashion trend; it’s a way of life. Cosy Girls snuggle under blankets for Netflix marathons, wrap up warm to go for autumnal walks or meet friends in the local pub with an open fire for a Sunday roast. Now this all sounds like a lifestyle trend we are happy to blindly follow.
