It was only ever a matter of time before someone combined the power of social media with a girl’s favourite hobby? The 10th March sees the launch of new website, Shopa.Com, where shopping is about to get social.

Shopa is the brainchild of Peter Janes and was founded in 2012. Following a successful career launching several other digital platforms, Janes recognised a gap in the online market and saw the huge potential benefits of harnessing the sharing power of social media. Along with Nicky McShane, his Chief Operating Officer, Janes plans to revolutionise the way we shop online; a bold statement in the fickle world of retail but after winning European Start-Up of the Year (IBM) in 2013 they certainly seem on the right track.

So what exactly is Shopa? Shopa combines an online marketplace with social media to provide a platform where users can share, browse and shop all in one place. Visitors to the site can create their own personal profile and can curate a customised product feed based around the items and brands that they like. As well as following specific brands and products, members can also follow other customers for inspiration or share ideas with their friends.

Unlike other curation sites like Pinterest, Shopa allows you to shop straight from their website and then the order is passed on directly to the retailer. What’s more, your shopping addiction could even start to earn you money; if a fellow shopper makes a purchase based on a product you have shared you will get a reward too!

Displaying a mix of designer brands combined with high-end high street, the launch of Shopa is like the opening of a new department store and a potential shopping opportunity you won’t want to miss. Is social shopping a match made in sartorial heaven? We Semple girls have long recognised the benefits of shopping and sharing, it’s about time the internet caught up.
