The Scottish Style Awards is not a ceremony I have necessarily heard of before. Perhaps because I am not a Scott, or perhaps because it doesn’t get the media coverage it deserves. Either way, I will be following the celebration of creative endeavor every year from now, having immersed myself in the tartan-tastic, big bearded brilliance that is Scotland and having had the pleasure of attending the awards myself.
On Saturday the 9th, the city of Glasgow became the celeb-studded destination for the awards, showcasing the reel of talent that the country has to offer. Inside the beautiful and grand Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, guests sat in circular tables to wine, dine and applaud this year’s nominees and winners. The Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum reminded me of London’s Natural History Museum, with large stone walls which breathed cold air with a historic, gothic style interior. It was a beautiful backdrop for the awards, and kept the champagne chilled.
For the evening, women fashioned Scotland’s original yet timeless sense of style. Floor length dresses were teamed with shoulder hugging fur warmers and floaty little black dresses worked as a perfect canvas to show off the textures and rich colours of tartan blazers. As for the men, you can only imagine the eccentricity of the tartan blazers they channeled, which surprisingly caught my eye for all the right reasons.
The foremost awards celebrated Scotland’s most stylish restaurants and bars, musicians, actors, actresses and most stylish male and female. With the likes of Nina Nesbitt and Pollyanna McIntosh attending, they were not going to disappoint. Both women walked home with an award, with Pollyanna modeling a scarlet red skirt suit and Nina in a quirky cute leather dress and hat.
Before I end this post, there is no way I can leave you without mentioning the highlight of my evening. Probably top of the guest list, Noel Gallagher and his beautiful wife Sara Macdonald, who deservedly won Most Stylish Woman, attended and there was no way I was going to miss the chance of meeting the Oasis lead singer. Well, that I did and even managed to get a photo!
All in all, Glasgow is a city of culture, talent and art, and despite the cold weather, the people are very warming. The Scottish Style Awards was a real treat to attend and I would advise you to clue up on Scotland’s most talented, as the country is heading in all the right directions for becoming the next fashion capital.
