I have some exciting news! Two weeks ago I mentioned that I was looking forward to meeting someone who is a legend in fashion. Roland Klein, former designer for celebrities, Royalty and career women visited our MSL office. He arrived intrigued about our work and wanted to know how he could help us.
As we sipped coffee, the MSL team sat in awe of a legendary man. Roland spoke passionately about his time in Paris, of his work in the great couture houses of Dior and Patou and of his six years as personal assistant to Karl Lagerfeld.
In the 1980s Roland set up in London and established his own label. The ROLAND KLEIN brand sold in major stores throughout the UK, Europe and the USA, and in some 150 shops across Japan.
What struck me most forcibly was Roland’s enthusiastic and insightful view of the global fashion world. Always current and informed, he had just attended events at the London Fashion Week and been inspired by the emerging designers who presented exciting and innovative work.
Roland also said that he was now back in vogue. Suddenly people were calling him and we laughed as he described himself as ‘vintage’. It was at this point that we hatched a new idea. More to follow on this but in the meantime, the moral of his story is that real style never goes out of fashion. Both he and MSL are synonymous with style.
