Yesterday we said goodbye to Prince, a music legend and truly one of a kind. In what is becoming a sort of trend in 2016 we witness the wake of someone who lived their life in the spotlight; unusual and exposed.
Rocking his platforms and flared bright white trousers Prince did not come onto the scene quietly. An eccentric character who relished in keeping his private life a riddle, which left a particularly sour taste in the mouths of the media, who branded him a recluse.
“Spiritually I feel very different from the way I used to, but physically? Not at all. I don’t look at time that way, and I don’t believe in age. When you wake up, each days looks the same, so each day should be a new beginning. I don’t have an expiration date” – Prince
His music, although current in the eighties, was distinctly his own; funky beats laced with jazz riffs, reminiscent of childhood musical memories. The nineties however were a darker time for Prince, when he became increasingly frustrated by the demands of his label. Fame, many come to find, is not all it’s cracked up to be.

For Prince and his fans, his career is one that will not soon be forgotten. Spanning some of the most interesting decades in recent times, his number ones, platinum albums and sold out shows still ring out across the world.
To us he may be the fun and flamboyant figure stood upon a stage, the legend and the mystery. But to his friends and his family he was so much more, and now as the world looks on they must grieve in public. His death will be discussed and speculated, his life summed up and scrutinised.
As the world mourns, Prince’s last words to his audience at his final show will surely echo: “wait a few days before you waste any prayers”.
RIP Prince.
