At Jigsaw they believe that “fashion is temporary but style is permanent” and they have certainly earned themselves a permanent place on the British high street. With timeless, elegant design-led collections, it is easy to see why they are one of our high street heroes.
Since first opening their doors in Hampstead, London back in 1972, Jigsaw has earned a reputation for tasteful, classic style that will create the backbone of any girl’s working wardrobe. Founded by John Robinson, the store’s original aim was to provide affordable and stylish clothes in inspiring surroundings. Throughout the years they have stuck closely to their original brand values by not blindly following and churning out trends but by producing good quality, beautiful clothes that will last for years not seasons.
They have also stuck to their goal of providing shoppers with inspiring surroundings; instead of every Jigsaw store looking the same each one is designed individually to complement its location and surroundings. This unusual approach is a refreshing change from the many identikit high street stores that crowd the retail market. The brand prides themselves on offering an all-round shopping experience with helpful and friendly staff and stores that are carefully thought out and pleasant to wander round.
Whilst the company has grown from their initial few stores in 1972 they are not necessarily found on every British High Street, instead they focus on the quality of their stores instead of quantity and will find the right location for them. However, with an online store, this has not affected their popularity with British shoppers. They have also caught the eye of industry insiders and have won many accolades over the years including Contemporary Design of the Year (1989 – British Fashion Council) and More Dash than Cash (1990 – British Fashion Council).
The Nineties also saw them expand their range by launching a menswear collection and then a children’s line a couple of years later. The Jigsaw family was complete in 2001 with the launch of their accessories collection, showcasing elegantly crafted handbags and shoes.
Jigsaw may not be on every British High Street but they are certainly in our hearts and are the go to place for timeless, stylish clothes that will be the final piece to any wardrobe puzzle.
