On Tuesday 9th August the Semple team visited the Scoop Tradeshow located at the iconic Saatchi Gallery on the King’s Road in Chelsea. Organiser Karen Radley’s decision to host this premium womenswear and accessories Tradeshow within such a prestigious and contemporary space was extremely savvy. The brands appear to have been carefully curated around the gallery’s existing exhibition that showcases an interesting mix of new sculpture by international artists such as Berlinde De Bruyckere and Folkert de Jong. The whole experience of perusing an eclectic and directional mix of designers was extremely enjoyable.

We attended the Tradeshow with a particular focus to view accessories rather than womenswear, although the latter catered to some exquisite brands from Italy, Spain, France and further afield. Below we have enclosed some personal Semple highlights.

Thierry Rabotin

This exquisite footwear brand demonstrated to us a fine example of traditional craftsmanship combined with forward thinking print and colour directions. Founded by French born Thierry Rabotin and later joined by partners Giovanna Ceolini and Karlheinz Schlecht, this talented trio have clearly created a vision that appeals to a hardcore fan base across the globe.

Aase Hopstock

We discovered another quirky footwear label by Norwegian born designer and Cordwainers graduate Aase Hopstock, whose background in costume design and illustration is evident in the almost theatrical Elizabethan appearance of her court shoes and ankle boots. Her creations feature bright, regal colours across buttery soft leathers and are often adorned with a splash of next season python print or silk ribbons. These shoes are for a woman who dares to be a little bit different and enjoys standing out from the crowd.

The Hype Noses

We take great care in the Semple office surroundings and have been prone to lighting the occasional candle. The Hype Noses selection presents an unusual yet intriguing array of scents that would compliment any room or experience and the art deco inspired packaging equally appealed. Our personal favourites were ‘Rose Antique’, apparently the rose is the emblem of Bulgaria and is blended here with it’s distant Chinese cousin lychee and ‘Masque Africain’ which comprises of dark wood impregnated with the aromas of camphor, manioc and sorcery. We wonder how a Semple candle might smell…

Fiona Paxton

Fiona Paxton has already gathered an international interest in her truly beautiful and richly produced jewellery designs. With over fifteen years experience of the fashion industry, Fiona decided to set up her own label which initially consisted of producing patterned scarves featuring Indian hand beading. These soon evolved into statement necklace pieces and cuffs to transform the simplest outfit into a directional outfit. Having been featured by some of the world’s most prominent publications (The New York Times and Vogue to name a few) and stocked in numerous luxury boutiques, it was even more of a joy to discover the pieces are affordable as well as beautiful.

The Jackson Twins

The Jackson Twins are sisters Joey and Louise who, having travelled the globe extensively and discovering a series of unique and one off pieces, came to the conclusion that a boutique was needed to showcase their ever-increasing collection that prides itself on originality and quality of origin. Their bespoke service has been widely acclaimed by residents in the Notting Hill area which they reside and also internationally, hence their presence at Scoop. A selection of dresses, bags, shoes and belts are available for purchase, as are fashionable dog leads, the ultimate accessory for any Notting Hill pooch.

Tatty Devine

Tatty Devine is the brainchild of Rosie Wolfenden and Harriet Vine who founded the company in 1999 and still retain absolute involvement in every stage of the design process twelve years on. This is jewellery for a fashion seeking customer or any individual with an appreciation for accessories as an art form. Perspex silhouettes are their signature style, but they also use textiles, wood, leather, veneer and enamel in their designs. Collaborations have included Gilbert & George, Tate and Rob Ryan and their cult celebrity following has attracted everyone from Claudia Schiffer to Jessie J. Located near the Semple team in Covent Garden, their Boutique will be featuring fashion film installations this September for London Fashion Week. Boutique manager Louise is a great person to chat to the collections about should you be passing.
