So the nights are drawing in and the spookiest holiday is almost upon on us. Even if you are not a fan of Halloween, AW13’s gothic glamour gives a fashion nod in the direction of All Hallows Eve. So forget witch’s hats and fishnet tights and subtly celebrate Halloween this year without compromising your fashion credentials.

It couldn’t be easier this season to embrace your inner goth and get creative for Halloween. The AW13 runways were full of rich velvety blacks, sultry laces and sexy leathers; think less angst ridden teenagers and more grown up femme fatales. Take your goth to the office on the 31st with patent heels, a pencil skirt and ladylike black lace. For nights out avoid the costume drama and wear every girl’s favourite; the Little Black Dress. This season the LBD is all about sheer panelling, sumptuous textures and elaborate detailing.

What better way to complement your grown up gothic look than with a trusty red lippy.  Steer clear of blood red to avoid falling in to the fancy dress trap and go for deep, matt shades of burgundy, or claret. If red lipstick is not your thing then follow the lead of Mac or Gareth Pugh who sent models down the catwalk with smoky eyes, pale lips and matt skin.

Gothic make up can be a tricky road to trend so if you are unsure, celebrate Halloween through your accessories instead.  Lace tights will dress up a plain black dress or add heavy metal hardwear like chunky necklaces or oversized cocktail rings to toughen up your look. If all else fails jump on the nail art trend; from cobwebs to pumpkins or even blood dipped talons the possibilities are endless.

After a gorgeous summer of tan legs and skimpy dresses, pale girls can rejoice for this is your season to shine.
