green

Popping into my favourite shops and having an evening scroll through online, it seems that in amongst the seasonal hues of browns and burgundy so prominent during autumn, there is a desire for green this year. From rich olives to opulent emeralds and pale sage to calming sea greens, this beautiful and somewhat unexpectant shade is adorning cosy knits, patterned midi skirts and chunky scarves.

Perhaps it is getting us ready for the festive season ahead or is taking inspiration from the interior world, but it seems the colour green is making quite the splash. While we may lean towards its lighter shades during the warmer months with mint and pastel hues, now is the time to embrace its more rich, deep and emerald tones.

It always seems safer to resort to pairing black and neutrals with brown and creams. Especially when it comes to workwear as this colour palette comes more naturally for many of us. The key then, is to introduce one shade at a time, and think carefully what it’ll pair with in your existing wardrobe.

Dark forest green pairs beautifully with dark tan accessories and a splash of blush pink, while the deeper emerald tones come to life with the addition of gold jewellery and tactile textures like velvet or faux fur. Luckily, green works wonderfully with soft creams and crisp whites too, so if you’re a little out of your comfort zone, team a dark green jumper with a white collared blouse for a gentle nod. As with all trends, embracing accessories is a brilliant way to introduce a look. A green headband, woolly scarf or even a pair of green velvet heels if you’re feeling braver.

If in doubt – or you prefer more neutral shades – a khaki trench or cardigan still graces the green colour wheel!
