I mentioned last week how we are finally welcoming the first sightings of spring, with the sun setting just that little bit later each evening and the colourful crocuses lining the roadside. And of course the change of season also creates a buzz of excitement in the fashion world too.
I think it’s safe to say that we are all looking forward to storing away those warm winter essentials and digging out the open toe sandals and summer dresses. While this may be a little optimistic, it is only March after all, I thought I would share a few of the popular spring trends which are currently taking centre stage.
Statement Sleeves

This is certainly a trend which we have seen carried through from autumn and winter, and it’s popular on the high-street too. Fluted, flared or frilled – they can be layered beneath jumpers or worn with three quarter length-sleeved jackets for those warmer days ahead.
Bare Shoulders

Another trend which was popular during the colder months, it’s very similar to the Bardot style which dominated both the high-street and luxury markets last summer. Whether it’s cut-outs, frills or one shoulder details, bare shoulders are set to be big for another year.
Corset Belt

Although many have attributed this up and coming trend to Kim Kardashian and her ‘waist trainer’, the corset belt is just one of a number of belt trends set to take precedence this year. Seen on her AW16 catwalk, Miuccia Prada revealed that for her, the corset is “a symbol of a woman and of a woman’s life…The woman has been happy or unhappy, who has had love and no love.”
The Trench Coat

Seen on the runways of Stella McCartney, Prada and Hermes, the trench has been reinvented and rejuvenated for another season. As always, the cut and fit is essential, and while camel remains a popular choice, there’s a variety of blush tones and interesting prints entering available too.
The Colour Orange

Perusing the latest street style snaps, it seems that many fashionistas are already in the know for one of this season’s biggest trends, with orange and yellow hues set to be a dominating force for the warmer months ahead. Always ahead of the curve, Victoria Beckham has long been a fan of the sunset shade and leads the way with the latest ready-to-wear collection. But if all over orange is perhaps to much for you then a gentle nod in their direction with a clutch bag, silk scarf or pair of shoes, will do just nicely.
