Wanderlust: a strong desire to travel. Sound familiar? A backpack of essentials, a scrunched up pocket-sized map and a free mind. The world really is your oyster. No matter what country your from, we all fall victim to the urge to see if the grass really is greener on the other side at least once in our lives. But whether you’ve already left a trail of footsteps around the world, or have never had to use your passport, there is a new trend hitting the catwalks this season that allows everyone to see what’s out there.
This Spring Summer, the catwalks are taking a walk on the wide side, taking us on a global trail. A range of textures, prints and colours are joining to create a collection to satisfy our inner wanderlust. The gap-year inspired designs have been described by Vogue’s style editor Emma Elwick-Bates as “a veritable United Nations of textures and nomadic finds exude a global charisma”.

Emilio Pucci is the name everyone is turning to for this trend. Fusing tribal prints with hip-hop vibes, free flowing fringes with chic accessories and haute-hippie emblazoned with textures, Emilio Pucci has blurred national borders to create a collection out of this world. The SS14 collection was hands down one of my favourites and has a story behind it to make Pucci’s journey even more authentic. “I was actually in Morocco in the springtime this year, and lots of those shapes were triggered by the sort of clothes the street kids were wearing to run around in, especially the joggers and the sweatshirts”.

Peter Dundas’ Emilio Pucci woman is reinventing the idea of the sports gal, the cultured lady and the travelled chick, creating a feminine silhouette that encompasses all three. Tassels and trims added fluidity and movement to the collection for the sports luxe dresser while native prints and dusty palettes nodded to our impulse to travel and explore. I don’t think there was a single piece I wouldn’t wear or see taking pride of place on the high street. I think we all get an open return with Emilio Pucci please.
