garden

It’s about this time each year that we drag ourselves off the couch and away from the TV in favour of a more al fresco lifestyle, as we head into the garden with the promise of blues skies, BBQ fuelled evenings and hot summer nights just around the corner.

But with limited space us Londoners have to get imaginative in order for our tiny gardens to make a big impact this summer. So, if you are short on space but crave a corner of nature to call your own, why not get creative this weekend and turn your little lot into something blooming marvellous.

How Does Your Garden Grow

Growing your own is something we assume only feasible with a large amount of backyard space. But by using a few household goods you can create a mini allotment that fits in around your space. Reuse some old tin cans by simply attaching them to your fence or wall to house some of your favourite herbs or  perhaps upcycle old pipes by cutting them in half to create a hanging feature that will act as grow bags of veggies to add a different dimension to your outdoor area.

Pull up a Pew

When space is on the short side a large table can be out of the question, but take a wooden pallet, give it a lick of paint and attached a few slabs to the top and you can easily, and cheaply, make a unit to give guests a place to perch their drinks. You could even add some bar stools to create a seating area that is functional and fabulous.

Mirror Mirror on the Wall

Adding a mirror to your garden might sound a little strange but the reflective nature will give the effect of more space and really open up your garden. It’s also a great way to add character without encroaching on that all-important ground area.

Think Inside the Box

A box bench is one of the small garden saviours. Not only can it be used to store all those things you’d love to keep hidden, it also makes a lovely seating area for entertaining guests. Drape with throws and scatter cushions to add interest and texture or simply top with a cushioned pad for your very own sun lounger.

So, there you have it; don’t let a little thing such as a tiny garden stop you from dreaming big with your outdoor space this summer.
