It may be unseasonably warm for this time of year but in fashion terms we are officially in autumn. It doesn’t matter what the weatherman is telling you, if you aren’t in new season stock then you are definitely getting left behind. But with so many new trends on the horizon, which fashion tribe will you be joining?
Cosy Country
It’s no surprise that the chunky knitwear comes out as soon as the nights start drawing in, but wrapping up warm doesn’t mean forgoing fashion. If you are a country girl at heart you will be like a kid in a candy store this season. Oversized kimono cardigans have been hitting the high street and are the perfect cosy cover up for the changeable temperatures. Chunky socks, scarves and beanies will keep you warm when the temperatures drop and a knitted jumper dress is perfect for lazy Sundays in the pub.
Super Furry Animals
If faux fur is your first choice for keeping warm then you will be spoilt for choice this autumn. Faux fur has been popping up just about everywhere; from trimmings on hoods and scarfs to full on fur coats and fluffy jumpers. Just remember to say no to animal cruelty and always go faux!
Girlie Grunge
There is always a girl who like her fashion with a bit of attitude, so grunge is never far from our fashion hearts. Even the most goody-two shoes amongst us likes to break the fashion rules every once in a while. The darker colours of autumn collections are perfect for this year’s take on grunge. Lace is sneaking in if you like your grunge to err on the girlie side or offset you dark drainpipes and stompy boots with a neon mohair jumper.
Working Girl
Autumn is always a good season for tailoring as we wave goodbye to the carefree days of summer. If you like you look with a bit more structure then this is the season for you. Sharp tailoring with smart shirts and streamlined silhouettes have been hitting the catwalks once again. This year, however, the hard edged working girl look has been replaced by a softer androgynous undertone.
Whichever look you decide to channel this season make sure you stock up early. The sun might still be shining but fashion moves fast and summer slowpokes could get left out in the cold.
