When you ask people some of their favourite prints to wear when it comes to fashion, I think florals – both bold and ditsy – would be a popular choice. From the vibrant, big florals of the 60s, to the vintage florals of the 70s, and the smaller subtle prints of the 90s, we still see an array of florals on our favourite celebs, street style icons and in our most-frequented stores.

The beauty of the floral print is the variety it offers. There really is a design for everyone, whether you are an avid floral fan or not.

Due to the seasons, we tend to associate pretty floral prints with the spring and summer months – the muted pastels and vintage-style florals associated with the era of Laura Ashley and in recent years, with Cath Kidston. However, florals can just as easily be worn during the dark depths of winter too, and they needn’t be black or monochrome either.

If you’re not feeling quite brave enough for a full-length maxi dress adorned heavily in flowers, then a light scarf, bag or printed camisole top paired with jeans offers a subtle nod to this enduring trend.

As we step into August, despite the incredible heatwave we’ve been experiencing up and down the country, our thoughts move towards the imminent arrival of autumn. A colour palette of rich reds, deep burgundies, a hint of pink and burnt oranges remind us of this transitional season as the leaves begin to change, the nights draw in and the temperatures start their descent.

Luckily, especially if we see this weather continuing for many more weeks to come, we can continue to wear our favourite summer dresses and printed midi skirts by simply teaming with light-weight jumpers and long-sleeved tops.

Whether you’ve been a long-standing fan of florals or consider yourself a bit of a novice when it comes to print – particularly florals – here are a few of my favourites I’ve spotted on the high-street which will see you through the transitional weeks to come.
