It might seem a little premature after being blown around town by the Arctic wind for the last month, but if the news over the last couple of days is to be believed, Spring is finally about to be sprung and we certainly cannot wait! After flipping through page after page of spring/summer trends with lust and losing our patience waiting to break out our latest purchases, it seems that next week we might finally be able to wear our new wedges and pastel jeans and pack away our winter coats and boots for next season. Whilst we eagerly await the much anticipated arrival of well overdue warmth, here are a few of the top trends that are just itching to yell “spring is finally here!”

3D Florals: As seen at the Oscar De La Renta s/s13 show, the 3D floral trend is that little something extra on the cyclic floral trend that always reappears in waiting for the British sun to finally come out. From large faux-fleurs embellishing wedges and dresses to subtle 3D lace overlay on a cardigan, there is something for everyone. These cute white and ice blue dresses from Miss Selfridge are gorgeous examples of the High Street’s tribute to the trend and also perfectly pastel for spring. There are plenty of different ways to wear them too; with pastel or grey brogues and a denim jacket, or toughened up with a light biker jacket and studded ankle boots.

Denim Dresses and Dungarees: Seen at the Chanel and 3.1 Philip Lim fashion week shows, to name but a few, we were reminded that denim is not just for jeans. Denim dresses and dungarees are both as ideal for layering up as for wearing on their own, as is so important when dressing for changeable weather like our own. Denim can be worn with almost anything and there are many different types of dresses and dungarees available across the different brands, which means that you can work this trend within your own style. Again, Miss Selfridge are looking to prove that they are the go-to brand on the High Street for the big spring/summer trends. They have fantastic quality denim and lots of different styles, with this dress in particular nailing the trend with its dungaree-style fastenings. As shown here from the Miss Selfridge look book, it has been teamed with a pretty floral blouse, but could just as easily be worn over a light knit jumper or a simple colour block tee.

Chunky Sandals: We can’t wait to get our feet out of tights and boots and show off our pedicures! This season is all about chunky shoes; wedges, block heels, platforms, flatforms and even the relatively new in-between style that is not quite a wedge, but not quite a platform and heel! Whether you want black, wooden, pastel, animal print or colour block, anything goes as long as it has a chunky base and there are many, many styles to choose from. These heart-shaped strappy wedges by Kurt Geiger are a perfectly wearable example and come in different colours (and a heeled version), so you can choose which one best suits your spring colour palette.

All we need to do now is wait patiently for a few more days and hope that the weather man was right!
