summer trends

It only feels like yesterday when we were considering the trends for spring and getting excited for the warmer days that lay ahead, and now here we are with the summer solstice marking the welcoming start of the season with its wonderfully long days, warmer evenings and sunny mornings.

Naturally, the British Summer can leave a lot to be desired. It is not quite a match to the beautiful summer season we see throughout Europe, but rather the odd day of scorching sunshine coupled with a few days of rain and plummeting temperatures. As always though, and a wonderful trait of us Brits, we are nothing if not prepared.

Summer fashion and outfits then can prove tricky. Too many summer dresses and we may find them still hanging in the wardrobe come autumn, while the thicker coats we wore during spring can be too much when the sun decides to poke his head out.

So, with a heatwave promised and the summer season in full swing, what are the trends we should keep a look out for?

Rainbow: It seems this season is all about colour. We’re leaving the pretty pastels so prominent and wearable during the spring months for something altogether more colourful and bright. If ever there was an occasion to wear colour, this summer presents the perfect opportunity.

Transparency: We first saw this trend make an appearance following the cold months of winter when we were only just venturing into the rejuvenating months of spring – and it’s showing no signs of disappearing just yet. Transparent bags make a statement nod to the trend but just be sure to keep a little dust bag inside for stowing away your more private belongings!

Shells: A bit of a different trend here and not one we’ve seen much of in recent years. Aside from the odd necklace you may bring home from your holiday abroad, it seems as though shell jewellery is creating quite a storm for the warm months ahead. An easy trend to adopt, pretty shell earrings add a sophisticated touch to an evening look.

Embroidery/Smocking: This is a more common trend for summer and one we see making a much-welcomed reappearance year after year. Pretty embroidered dresses and blouses with smocking detail remain a favourite for these warmer days as they work wonderfully for holidays, casual weekends or office attire.
