Simple Home Improvements – The Bathroom

Has the imminent arrival of spring ignited in you a flair for creativity? Perhaps it has encouraged you to re-evaluate and reassess your home?

I find the upcoming spring months always provide the perfect opportunity for a revamp – whether you’re tired of your wardrobe (having to wear chunky knits can grow tiresome after the fourth month!), or you feel your home could do with a lick of paint, these few weeks before the clocks change offer the opportune time.

Following on from the living room, office and bedroom, the bathroom is next on the list. Not only is it a room in the home which is frequented daily, its size and use offers a chance to be creative and perhaps indulge in an interior trend or two, too. You use your bathroom enough to appreciate it, but not enough to be put off and regret your decision making.

Fallen for the ‘dark side’ trend or fancy going bolder with colour and texture? Perhaps you’ve dreamt of growing an urban jungle or introducing a roll-top bath? It might be time to create that Pinterest board and pay a visit to Homebase!

While the size of your bathroom can prove advantageous in some respects, if you’re living with a really small space, it can seem tricky to decide how best to maximise it. Making the most of natural lighting is key so investing in a big mirror will certainly help with this. Blinds and a shower curtain provide the perfect way to experiment with bolder prints, while tactile textures work wonderfully with bath mats and towelling. A small change – painting the walls for example – can make a really big difference, while scouring the high-street for inexpensive trinkets will help to add a little personality and create a warm welcome for guests too.

Whatever the size of your bathroom, storage remains focal – you need, after all, room to store those spare towels, toilet rolls and shower gels – so really think how best to utilise the space. Closed and open shelving can both be effective, but rests largely on what you’ll be showcasing.

Green and blue hues can work wonderfully, but so too can lighter, more muted tones – it all depends on the ambience and tone you want you create.
