If you have thoroughly been enjoying the fedora craze these last few months, you’ll appreciate a good hat when you see one and the cold winter months have welcomed the addition of gorgeous hats by both men and women, and even the most fashion-confused *cough* myself, have sported this go-to winter fashion accessory. With most high-street brands competing for the cheapest, which ones have come out on top and who is rocking the look?
For an affordable collection of hats I’d say ASOS is your best bet; with hundreds of styles and brands you can narrow your search to reflect your budget, as well as colour and style. What I love most about ASOS is their items are actually photographed on a model, rather than floating on a white background with no representation of what it might actually look like on – always a risky purchase!
Deciding on the style you want can be tricky, after all how many people actually know the difference between them all!? But why not channel your inner ‘Breaking Bad’ with a Heisenberg style Pork Pie Hat from Gamble & Gunn?
Or if you’re after something that’ll never go out of fashion even after the “Days Are Gone” you can always rely on a Haim inspired wide brim, brilliant to dress up or down. Rag & Bone have a gorgeous Pecan coloured fedora waiting to become the favourite item in your winter wardrobe.
Or maybe you’re looking to inject some colour, in which case be brave with maroons and dark blues at Whistles just like James Bay, recent winner of the Critic’s Choice BRIT Award and one to watch in 2015.
Whatever the style and however you wear it, make sure you make the most of this trend as it could be as fleeting as it came – although I have a feeling it might stick around for a while! Invest in a great hat in the New Year and unleash a new you.
Top-Hat Tips:
Invest in a few cheap hooks to display and store your hats
A lint roller will be your best friend and keep your hat looking box-fresh
If your hat is too big, add some adhesive draft excluder under the petersham inside the hat’s brim (a Semple hack secret) 😉
