It has been said on more than one occasion that I shop, a lot. Rarely does a day go by without one parcel or another getting delivered, to the point where I actually managed to break my own letterbox through such brutal overuse. My fervent shopping addiction has even become an ongoing joke around the office after a record four parcels were delivered by our overworked postman in just one visit!

With the January sales drawing to a close I thought what better time to fess up to my addiction, and explain just why it makes me feel so good. Having grown up watching TV shows such as Sex and the City, Gossip Girl, and Friends, my shopaholic role models in the form of Carrie Bradshaw and Blair Waldorf were soon engrossed in my subconscious. I instantly related to their infectious urge to shop and longed to carve out a career in fashion and immerse myself in the industry. And as luck would have it, that little dream came true.

When people question my shopping habits I often tend to defend my choices but have recently come to realise that I have nothing to hide. Yes I probably do buy more clothes than any one person could possibly need in a lifetime but not once has my ‘habit’ left me in financial trouble. I live by the meticulous rule of out with the old and in with the new, making use of many selling’s sites like eBay, Vinted, and Depop to ensure there’s always room for more.

Much like a gym bunny addicted to exercise, I thrive on the thrill of purchasing something new; whether it’s a new addition to my wardrobe or a gift for a loved one, the feeling is the same. And while I do sometimes despair when that niggling voice in my head says ‘go on one more top won’t hurt’ or when I have to use my party line ‘oh this old thing’ just one too many times, I know that I am firmly in control of my choices…for now. But who’s to say what next season will bring!
